ABOUT THE ARTIST

Since childhood, drawing has brought Bingyu Zou into a world of infinite possibilities and creative joy. She earned her master’s degree in Urban Design from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China, and in 2004 moved to the United States with her husband. A decade later, she returned to her artistic roots, teaching herself 17th–18th century techniques. Through this practice, she developed a profound appreciation for nature-inspired motifs.

Influenced by Kaii Higashiyama’s sense of harmony, Georgia O’Keeffe’s innovative vision, and the narrative realism of Andrew Wyeth and Alex Colville, Bingyu’s landscape paintings seek to create an intimate experience while capturing moments of quiet significance.

Her years in the United States deepened her love of exploration, as she traveled across the country with her husband and daughter. Embracing diverse lifestyles and cultures, she photographed moments that deeply resonated with her. In the studio, she reimagines these landscapes with careful attention, refining composition, surface, and color to create works that are both compelling and evocative.

Her paintings embody a balance of weight and simplicity. Often beginning with thinned oil washes, she builds her compositions through a dialogue between deliberate layers and flat, minimal surfaces. Vibrant colors and expressive brushstrokes lend her work a sense of serenity.

Each painting conveys emotion, mood, and sensation, celebrating the beauty and vitality of the landscape. For Bingyu, painting is an act of contemplation—an invitation to mystery, heightened perception, and meticulous aesthetics.
